Armed Guard
Armed Security Officer Course
Offered every Wednesday and Thursday from 9AM till 5PM each day. Both consecutive days are required. This is a 16 hour course split over 2 days.
Course
Objectives:
The
training objectives of this course are to promote
professionalism in the security industry by making the
security officer/guard student aware of the Rules and Laws
that regulates the private security industry.
This course will begin with the four hour basic
course, known as the General Training Course, designed to
prepare the security student to gain an understanding of
Board Rules, and the state laws pertaining to private
security. It will
further familiarize each student with Legal Powers and
Limitations of a Security Officer; Emergency Procedures; and
General Duties.
The course examination on this course consists of 25
questions, and students must achieve a grade of 70% on the
written examination.
The
Armed Course will re-enforce the laws of arrest, to include
a higher level of liability. Students will learn about
criminal & civil liability laws and laws of arrest.
Topics of the utmost
importance will be Self-Defense, Defense of Third Person,
Use of Deadly Force, and Authority & Jurisdiction.
This
training will further include an introduction to Pistols and
Revolvers, Basics of Marksmanship, Stress & Survival, Safety
& Maintenance, and Range Safety & Procedures.
The examination on the armed course consists of 50
questions.
Evaluation Method:
This course will culminate at the firing range. Students are required to achieve a minimum of 70%, on a B-27 silhouette target course approved by the Commissioner.
Tuition includes targets and range fee. Ammunition is not included. Authorized guns and calibers by the TDCI are: .32, .380 (9mm kurz), .38, .357, .357 Sig, 9mm, 10mm, .40S&W, .45GAP or .45ACP.
